PewDiePie is the first content creator to reach this milestone. Those who achieve a massive 100 million subscriber base receive a red diamond plaque. YouTube gives its creators a variety of plaques with play button images. So, there you have it! PewDiePie did, in fact, receive his gold play button – albeit, a little later than expected. “I’m really happy that my parents could help out and get it to me,” he said. And, in a video he posted to YouTube, PewDiePie showed off the button and joked about the mix-up. Luckily, PewDiePie’s parents were able to intercept the package and send it on to their son. But when the jeweler delivered the button, they accidentally sent it to PewDiePie’s old address in Sweden. Due to the unique nature of the button, YouTube had to commission a custom-made piece from a jeweler. However, YouTube ran into a bit of a snag when it came to delivering the button to PewDiePie. The button was created to recognize YouTube channels that reach 50 million subscribers and, at the time, PewDiePie was the only channel to hit that milestone. In September of 2015, YouTube announced that PewDiePie would be receiving the gold play button as part of the site’s Creator Rewards program.

But did PewDiePie actually receive his button? The short answer is yes, but the story of how he got it is a bit more complicated. The button, which is plated in 24-karat gold, is a symbol of YouTube success and a coveted prize for many of the site’s top creators. It’s been a little over three years since PewDiePie, real name Felix Kjellberg, hit 50 million subscribers on YouTube and was awarded a custom-made, gold play button.
